YM-YWHA Sylvan Adams Excellence 2020

The Sylvan Adams YM-YWHA sports and community center gets a makeover with BOEN Sport Actiflex.

It was in February 2020 that Andre Ibghy (Architect), Nicole Abitan (Director of Finance and Human Resources), Maurice Gabay (Director of Facilities) and Marla Gold (Executive Director) kicked off the renovation project, named Excellence 2020.

The Excellence 2020 project offers a whole new look to the Y, which will be transformed into an improved space where members can meet, work and play. With Excellence 2020, the new Y will compete with all current community centers and fitness centers, increase the value of members' Y memberships, and enhance their overall experience.

This project is made possible by Sylvan Adams and other generous private donors. Here are some of the enhancements members will benefit from:

• A new welcoming members' office and a contemporary community space

• A state-of-the-art, multi-functional fitness center with state-of-the-art gyms and gyms

• Two new group training studios (with wooden floors)

• A modernized race track

The old floor no longer met the needs of the members. In the first stage, it was withdrawn.

The result of these major renovations is an airy, welcoming and bright space. The two halls adjacent to the multi-functional training center are now equipped with a sports floor made of Canadian maple engineered wood. This floor from the manufacturer BOEN Sport combines the warmth of wood and sporty performance. Actiflex Stadium protects the joints of athletes with its ability to absorb the shocks of jumps and jumps.

The major advantage over other wooden sports floors is the speed of installation thanks to a patented click system and factory pre-varnishing of the surface.

Andre Ibghy (Architect), Nicole Abitan (Director of Finance and Human Resources), Maurice Gabay (Director of Facilities) and Marla Gold (Executive Director) kicked off the renovation project.

To meet their fitness and exercise needs, the center chose BOEN Actiflex in Canadian Maple in their two studios (a total of 4350 square feet). This specialised engineered hardwood solution delivers the essential need for cushioning during action-related recreational activities and the factory-applied uniform surface finish provides easy cleaning.

The architect responsible for monitoring the project, André Ibghy of Ibghy Architecte Inc, explains the choice of flooring: “We were looking for a sport flooring with low elevation. After extensive research, we chose Boen Actiflex for the Yoga end Exercise rooms because this system meets the athletes’ expectations in terms of bounce without being as high as other wooden sport floors. And the wood really makes the space feel warm ".
